The Great Show: Taekwon Set to Revolutionize Global Martial Arts Entertainment

The Great Show Taekwon merges martial arts and performance in global audition airing soon

In an unprecedented move blending martial arts with performance entertainment, South Korea is launching the world’s first global Taekwondo audition program, The Great Show: Taekwon. Premiering on MBN on June 27, this groundbreaking show aims to discover the next global Taekwondo superstar, setting the stage for a new wave in Hallyu content.

Taekwondo, Korea’s national martial art with over 200 million practitioners worldwide, has long mesmerized audiences with its high-energy performances on large-scale platforms like the Got Talent franchise. Capitalizing on this global appeal, The Great Show: Taekwon will bring together elite athletes, performers, and martial artists from around the world to compete for a grand prize of 100 million KRW (approx. $75,000 USD).

The auditions drew a diverse pool of talent, ranging from national athletes and black belts to international martial artists, dancers, and even Parkour professionals. Through intense preliminary rounds and creative missions, only the most exceptional contestants will advance to the grand finale. Expect a fresh synergy of Taekwondo and performance arts that promises unparalleled energy and inspiration.

The show also highlights personal growth narratives and emotional journeys of participants, marking it as both a talent discovery platform and a human-interest story hub. The ultimate winner won’t just take home the cash prize but will headline a global Taekwondo showcase currently in production as part of the series’ expansion.

Veteran broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu leads as main host, with Taekwondo athlete-turned-K-Pop performer Na Tae-joo joining as co-MC. Judges include performance director Park Kal-lin, K-Pop choreographer Choi Young-jun, actress and certified black belt Lee Yoo-ri, and Kwak Tae-yong, head coach of Korea’s Taekwondo National Demonstration Team.

Produced by SNC Culture with support from Chuncheon City, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, and the Korea Tourism Organization, the show’s finale will coincide with the World Taekwondo Culture Festival in July.

“We’re not just creating a show—we’re launching a global stage for Taekwondo,” an SNC Culture spokesperson said. “Even before the show airs, producers are in talks with executives in the Las Vegas entertainment scene, aiming for an international tour before year’s end.”

The Great Show: Taekwon is set to deliver a thrilling mix of culture, sport, and international talent, pushing the boundaries of martial arts entertainment.
