KDrama ‘My First Night with the Male Lead’ Unveils Main Posters Ahead of Premiere

Main characters share romantic tension in new KDrama My First Night with the Male Lead poster

KBS 2TV’s upcoming fantasy romance series ‘My First Night with the Male Lead’ has revealed two captivating main posters, teasing the unique storyline where a modern college girl finds herself transported into a romantic novel.

The drama, written by Jeon Sun-Young and directed by Lee Woong-Hee, follows Seohyun as ‘Cha Seon-Cheok’, an ordinary university student who mysteriously wakes up in the world of a romance novel. She becomes entangled with ‘Ibeon’, portrayed by Ok Taec-yeon, the obsessive and emotionally complex male lead of the fictional universe.

In the first poster, the two characters stand intimate yet stoic. Seon-Cheok slightly leans toward Ibeon, while he gazes forward with a blank expression, silently staying by her side. Their ambiguous expressions hint at unspoken feelings, stirring curiosity about how their relationship will unfold.

The second poster intensifies the romantic tension, as Seon-Cheok, holding a traditional Korean hat strap, gazes up at Ibeon with anticipation. In response, Ibeon meets her gaze. The close proximity and emotional eye contact capture the palpable chemistry brewing between them.

Visually, the posters embrace the aesthetics of a historical romance novel, with elements such as butterflies, moon imagery, and a soft purple palette. Seon-Cheok appears in a light-colored hanbok, contrasted with Ibeon’s dark traditional attire and black gat, visually symbolizing their contrasting worlds and fates.

The drama has also drawn public attention due to a controversy during production. In January, architect Min Seo-Hong accused the production team of damaging a wooden pillar at the Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy, a UNESCO World Heritage site, during filming. Following this, KBS issued a public apology, stating that they were in discussions with representatives from the site to address the damages and ensure restoration.

According to KBS, scenes filmed at the disputed site will be removed from the final broadcast in cooperation with the Andong City Hall and the Cultural Heritage Administration. The network also pledged to implement further preventative measures to avoid future incidents.

‘My First Night with the Male Lead’ is set to premiere on June 11 at 9:50 p.m. KST. With its unique blend of fantasy and period romance, the series is poised to captivate K-drama enthusiasts both in Korea and abroad.
