Heaven Gets Busy: Ryu Deok-hwan and Kim Hye-ja’s Unlikely Encounter Draws Laughter in ‘More Beautiful Than Heaven’

JTBC’s Saturday-Sunday drama ‘More Beautiful Than Heaven’ is turning up the celestial charm as it ventures into its third episode. Newly released stills tease the much-anticipated first encounter between Lee Hae-sook (played by Kim Hye-ja) and the heavenly pastor (played by Ryu Deok-hwan), showcasing a hilariously awkward spiritual meet-cute that is bound to leave viewers grinning.

In the previous episode, viewers witnessed the emotionally charged reunion of Lee Hae-sook and her husband Go Nak-jun (played by Son Suk-gu) in a surreal heavenly setting. While Hae-sook appeared in her 80s, Nak-jun was in his 30s, creating an imbalance of emotion and expectation. Their initial disconnect soon gave way to a heartfelt reconciliation marked by warm hugs and gentle apologies — a moment that suggested a peaceful eternity ahead.

However, that peace was short-lived. A mysterious woman ran toward Go Nak-jun, calling his name and plunging the scene into an awkward and chaotic cliffhanger. The introduction of potential secrets and unknown relationships promises to stir further intrigue in upcoming episodes.

Episode 3 delves deeper into Lee Hae-sook’s afterlife, as she pays a visit to the local heavenly church — a place known less for devotion and more as a haven of boredom where the pastor, ironically, has the least to do. All that changes when Hae-sook’s presence awakens feelings and confusion in the pastor. His eyes light up as she approaches, but his demeanor quickly shifts when he learns who she really is. While Hae-sook remains composed and smiling, the pastor is visibly shaken, creating a comedic dynamic that promises plenty of laughs.

Tensions rise as a new conflict brews between Lee Hae-sook and Go Nak-jun, triggered by Somi (played by Han Ji-min). Hae-sook confronts Nak-jun and insists on casting Somi out of their home, even declaring a surprise departure to “live a life that fits me,” highlighting her unresolved feelings.

According to the production team, “Episode 3 continues to explore a version of heaven that feels eerily familiar yet distinct.” With the debut of the church and its idle pastor, the narrative takes a humorous turn. “Lee Hae-sook’s reasons for visiting the pastor will be revealed, and their eccentric chemistry adds a fresh spark to the series. From their very first exchange, expect chaotic banter that gives new meaning to celestial relationships.”
