Desert Island Dining and Drama: How ‘Rest Well, Good Luck’ Dominated Korean Variety
The latest episode of Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation’s (MBC) hit variety program Rest Well, Good Luck (‘푹 쉬면 다행이야’) demonstrated once again why it remains the reigning king of Monday night entertainment. Airing on April 28, episode 46 showcased the chaotic charm and island adventures of celebrated actors Jang Hyuk, Ko Chang-seok, and pop legends Park Joon-hyung and Son Ho-young of g.o.d., joined by Chef Jeong Ho-young.
According to Nielsen Korea, the show claimed the top spot in both household ratings and the coveted 2049 demographic among all Monday TV broadcasts. Proving that laughter, leadership missteps, and seafood go a long way, the cast delivered unscripted comedy gold on a remote island turned restaurant.
Jang Hyuk, full of ambition, labeled himself the self-appointed leader. Bringing along his reliable friend Ko Chang-seok as the ‘field commander,’ he was determined to run the island eatery with precision—though that instantly turned comic. Ko, initially under the impression that they’d be relaxing with beers, hilariously likened his role to that of an overworked farmhand. This set the tone for a rollercoaster of playful bickering and camaraderie.
From crab fishing with Ko’s seasoned know-how as a former seaweed farmhand to stomach-turning seasickness, the group reeled in more than just crustaceans. Jang Hyuk showcased his former musical rhythm from his TJ days by tirelessly hauling fishing nets, earning praise—and a hearty payday—from the ship’s real captain.
Back on the island, viewers witnessed Ko’s transformation into ‘Ko-ttung Ramsey,’ whipping up a spicy cold crab noodle dish. Arguments over seasoning flared with Chef Jeong Ho-young, but Ko’s flavor instincts triumphed, winning even Jeong’s reluctant culinary approval.
The night continued with coastal foraging, leading to Ko’s accidental fashion fire and his tremendous culinary return: a gritty, flavorful Dongrae-style pancake that honored his Busan roots. Coupled with Jeong’s squid cold noodle dish and a final seafood rice cake stew featuring the day’s entire catch—octopus, crab, squid, and more—the cast delivered a rustic gourmet experience.
As the show teased next week’s episodes with Ko stepping into the messy shoes of leadership, fans can expect even more humor and heart. ‘Rest Well, Good Luck’ airs every Monday at 9 p.m. KST on MBC.
