Comedian Kim Won-hoon has issued a public apology following the controversy that emerged after his reaction at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards. The incident, which gained traction across social media, centers around Kim’s facial expression and alleged remarks during fellow comedian Shin Dong-yup’s acceptance of the Male Variety Performer Award.

The fallout was addressed on the popular YouTube channel ‘Jjanhanhyung Shin Dong-yup,’ where Kim Won-hoon appeared alongside Kim Min-kyo, Ji Ye-eun, and Jeong Ho-cheol. During their candid conversation, Ji Ye-eun remarked, “Won-hoon has really been leading company dinners lately,” while Jeong Ho-cheol jokingly added, “He’s trying to become the second Shin Dong-yup.”

Kim Won-hoon admitted that such comments have been frequently directed at him. Kim Min-kyo lightheartedly referenced the awards night, saying, “That’s why your expression wasn’t great at the Baeksang Arts Awards.” Previously, Kim’s seemingly unenthusiastic reaction as Shin Dong-yup received the award caused some online viewers to speculate, stirring debate regarding Kim’s professionalism and intentions.

Shin Dong-yup, in his trademark wit, quipped, “I heard there was some swearing backstage. Please don’t hate on Won-hoon for this. It can happen to anyone. Don’t congratulate me—just forgive Won-hoon.”

Kim Won-hoon clarified the situation, saying, “It wasn’t because hyung won the award; I was just lost in thought, momentarily dealing with some personal issues at that split second. I apologize.” His explanation brought a light-hearted tone to the discussion and diffused much of the tension, highlighting the camaraderie among the comedians.

This incident offers a glimpse behind the scenes at one of Korea’s biggest entertainment award shows, and underscores the importance of context and understanding when public figures are caught in the viral spotlight.
