Born to Travel the World 4 Dominates Sunday Entertainment with Ratings and Buzz

MBC show Born to Travel the World 4 gains massive popularity and top ratings in South Korea

MBC’s flagship travel reality show Born to Travel the World 4 (Korean title: 태어난 김에 세계일주4) continues its meteoric rise, securing the top spot in TV buzz just two weeks after its premiere. According to the FunDex report by Good Data Corporation for the third week of May 2024 (May 12–18), the show jumped eight ranks and soared by 49.84% compared to the previous week, claiming the number one position in Sunday’s non-drama TV category.

The show, which features popular webtoon artist Kian84 and guests like Dex, recently aired its second episode on May 18, which captured the number one spot in the 2049 ratings for Sunday entertainment. It also topped Netflix Korea’s Top 10 series chart and took first place on Wavve’s variety rankings right after its debut.

This triple-threat success across traditional broadcasting, OTT platforms, and viewer buzz solidifies its place as a phenomenon. Highlights from the latest episode include a heartfelt farewell scene where Kian84 gives a meaningful gift to a local Sherpa, as well as Dex vlogging his quest to find late-night food in the streets of Pokhara, earning widespread viewer affection for the returning “Ki-Ppa-Si-Dex” trio.

The response online has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans calling this season a “legendary edition,” and praising Kian84 for his realness and emotional depth. Comments on social media include, “This is true healing entertainment,” and “An emotional rollercoaster – I laughed and cried.”

Before its official broadcast, the series already hinted at its success: the official teaser surpassed 1 million views on YouTube in just one day, topping the trending videos list and setting the fastest start in the show’s history. The producers noted that thanks to its Himalayan setting and raw emotional storytelling, the show resonates deeply with audiences, stating, “The authenticity of all four cast members is what made this season special across ratings, OTT, and buzz alike.”

Born to Travel the World 4 airs every Sunday at 9:10 p.m. KST on MBC and provides bonus content and behind-the-scenes footage through its YouTube channel ‘태계일주 베이스캠프’ (The World Travel Basecamp).
