BOYNEXTDOOR Takes Over Japan With ‘No Genre’

Emerging K-pop sensation BOYNEXTDOOR has made a stunning mark in Japan’s music scene. According to Billboard Japan on May 21, the group’s 4th mini album ‘No Genre’ recorded impressive first-week sales of 180,616 copies (tracking period May 12–18), securing the no.1 spot on the Top Album Sales chart.

Perhaps more remarkably, BOYNEXTDOOR edged out Japan’s most beloved singer-songwriter Hoshino Gen, whose 6th album ‘Gen’ sold 94,214 copies in the same week, landing in second place. This is a significant indicator of the group’s explosive popularity in the Japanese market.

On the same day, Oricon reported that ‘No Genre’ also achieved first place on its Weekly Album Ranking (dated May 26), making it BOYNEXTDOOR’s third consecutive No.1 album on the chart following their previous mini albums ‘HOW?’ and ‘19.99’.

Oricon highlighted the achievement on its website, stating that, “BOYNEXTDOOR has set a new personal best with the first-week sales of ‘No Genre,’ surpassing their previous record set by ‘19.99’. The album has also now overtaken the cumulative sales of ‘19.99’.”

Dominating Digital & Physical Rankings

BOYNEXTDOOR’s title track ‘I Feel Good’ further added to their success by debuting at number one on Billboard Japan’s Hot Shot Song chart for the same period. Additionally, the track entered the main Billboard Japan Hot 100 at number 29, pointing to continued growth momentum.

In South Korea as well, the track has been met with enthusiastic reception. On Melon, Korea’s largest streaming platform, both ‘I Feel Good’ and ‘오늘만 I LOVE YOU’ climbed into the top rankings, reflecting their simultaneous rise in online popularity.

K-Pop’s New Million-Selling Powerhouse

On the physical sales front, according to Hanteo Chart, ‘No Genre’ hit first place in the third week of May (May 13–19) with 1,166,419 copies sold in its debut week. This milestone marks the group’s second million-seller album in less than two years since their debut—an extraordinary feat for a rookie group.

With ‘No Genre’, BOYNEXTDOOR not only proved their international appeal but also established themselves as a rising giant in the globally competitive music industry.
