The Director’s Cut Awards, hosted by the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK), stands apart from other film awards in Korea by allowing filmmakers themselves to select the winners. Moon Geun-young’s performance as Teacher Haetsalban (portrayed by Oh Ji-won), a central figure in the extremist cult Exhuma, received critical acclaim for its depth and intensity. Her shocking transformation and nuanced portrayal captivated both audiences and her industry peers.
