Yoo Ji-tae’s Passion for Independent Films

Yoo Ji-tae, renowned for his deep love for independent films, steps forward to support ‘Sea Tiger’ — a film dramatizing the 2014 Sewol Ferry tragedy. Upon learning about the challenges faced during its production, Yoo Ji-tae personally met with director Jung Yoon-chul to bolster the movie’s promotion efforts.

A Platform for Independent Films

As part of his longstanding initiative, ‘Watching Independent Films with Yoo Ji-tae’, ‘Sea Tiger’ becomes the 26th film in the series. The event, scheduled for the 26th at KU Cinema, promises in-depth storytelling with director Jung Yoon-chul. Attendees will explore behind-the-scenes stories, filmmaking processes, and the poignant tales of sacrifice and valor demonstrated during the Sewol Ferry tragedy.

The Heroes Behind the Tragedy

‘Jung Yoon-chul, acclaimed for films like ‘Marathon’ and ‘The King’s Case Note’, delves into another powerful narrative with ‘Sea Tiger’. Based on true events, the film portrays the story of diver Kim Kwan-hong and civilian divers who risked their lives during the Sewol crisis. The narrative follows diver Na Kyung-soo, depicted by actor Lee Ji-hoon, who heroically participated in the search efforts.

An Unyielding Spirit

Even amid heartbreaking circumstances, where divers battled the deep and treacherous sea to recover victims’ bodies, tragedy struck with the death of a fellow diver. Amidst their grief, divers faced blame from the government, compelling them to stand against an unjust system.

From Book to Movie

The film draws inspiration from Tak-hwan Kim’s investigative novel ‘It’s a Lie’, bringing a gripping tale of resilience and defiance to the big screen.

Yoo Ji-tae’s Ongoing Projects

Meanwhile, Yoo Ji-tae continues his cinematic journey, appearing in Jang Hang-jun’s film ‘The Man Living in the King’s Place’ and Im Seon-ae’s ‘The 7 AM Breakfast Meeting for the Brokenhearted’.
