‘Weak Hero Class 2’ Becomes No.1 Global Non-English Netflix Series

Korean series Weak Hero Class 2 ranks No1 on Netflix nonEnglish global chart

The Korean high school action drama ‘Weak Hero Class 2’ has made a remarkable impact globally, seizing the No.1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Series chart. According to Netflix’s official site, Tudum, the series ranked third overall including English-language titles, with 6,100,000 views recorded from March 25 to 27 — just three days after its release.

This marks an impressive leap from its predecessor, ‘Weak Hero Class 1’, which also remains strong in the charts, taking the No.8 spot in the same category with 1,900,000 views. Notably, both seasons have climbed into the Top 10 in 63 countries, including South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand, with Season 2 earning the top position in nine of them.

‘Weak Hero Class 2’ follows Yeon Si Eun (played by Park Ji-hoon), an academically exceptional student who, after a traumatic past from failing to protect a friend, transfers to a new school and faces even more brutal violence to protect those close to him. The series portrays a gripping tale of survival and emotional growth as Si Eun overcomes his inner demons.

Originally released in 2022, ‘Weak Hero Class 1’ broke new ground in the genre with its compelling plot, intense character dynamics, and stellar performances. The new season continues that legacy with deeper emotional stakes as Si Eun rebuilds his life and confronts powerful adversaries, including Na Baek Jin and Geum Seong Je.

Park Ji-hoon’s performance has particularly been praised for conveying the sorrow, guilt, and determination of his character as he forges new friendships with Park Hu Min (Ryeo Un), Seo Jun Tae (Choi Min Young), and Go Hyeon Tak (Lee Min Jae).

Other Korean titles also performed impressively: the emotional JTBC drama ‘More Beautiful Than Heaven’, starring Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku, ranked at No.5 with 2,900,000 views. The medical drama ‘Someday, the Wise Medical Student Life’ featuring Go Yoon Jung, came next with 2,100,000 views, while Netflix’s ‘폭싹 속았수다’, led by IU and Park Bo Gum, followed in 7th place with 2,000,000 views across eight consecutive weeks on the chart.

With rising international interest in K-dramas, the explosive popularity of ‘Weak Hero Class 2’ reaffirms the genre’s growing presence on global streaming platforms, setting a new benchmark for high school action storytelling from Korea.
