tvN’s ‘Please Take Care of This Week’ Premieres with Stirring Family Drama and a Sobriety Quest
tvN (Total Variety Network) has launched its latest Monday-Tuesday drama, ‘Please Take Care of This Week’, with a bang — a compelling story that goes far deeper than just drinks. Premiering on the 12th, the debut episode paints a poignant portrait of Han Geum-joo (played by Choi Soo-young), who returns home to Bochon Village following a heart-wrenching breakup and begins her turbulent journey toward sobriety.
The premiere was a striking success, securing a 4.3% average viewership in the Seoul metro area with a peak of 5.7%, making it the No.1 show in its time slot across cable and satellite channels (Nielsen Korea).
After calling off her wedding and failing to return to work, Geum-joo is pushed by her mother, Kim Kwang-ok (Kim Sung-ryung), to shelve her pride and move back to their countryside home. But what awaits her is a household dominated by alcohol: her father, Han Jung-soo (Kim Sang-ho), a heavy drinker; and her sister, Han Hyun-joo (Jo Yoon-hee), who unwinds from parenting by pouring drinks. Her homecoming is met with a toast rather than sympathy.
Tensions rise as Kwang-ok throws down the gauntlet with a stringent no-alcohol rule, foreshadowing familial chaos. Despite Kwang-ok’s attempt to save face in front of neighbors by attributing the broken engagement to in-laws, Geum-joo reveals the truth: “I broke it off. Because he was worse than a bottle of booze.”
The plot thickens when flashbacks reveal she caught her ex-boyfriend, Joo-yeop (Yoo Ui-tae), buying a pregnancy test — proof of his infidelity. Though she walked away with bravado, the emotional scars linger. Meanwhile, Geum-joo unexpectedly reunites with her ex-flame Seo Ui-jun (Gong Myung), now the beloved local doctor in Bochon known as the ‘Bochon God.’
Their awkward encounter ends in a shocking twist after a night of drinking — Geum-joo wakes up in a strange place next to a limping Ui-jun. His deadpan advice, “You really need to quit drinking,” only deepens the mystery and anticipation.
‘Please Take Care of This Week‘ melds heartfelt narrative with humor and surprise, setting the stage for Geum-joo’s emotional evolution, her complex past with Ui-jun, and the bizarre dynamics of her booze-loving family. With naturalistic performances and unpredictable plot turns, viewers are already hooked.
Catch the next chapter of Han Geum-joo’s sobriety saga and her fiery reconnection with Seo Ui-jun in episode 2, airing tonight at 8:50 p.m. on tvN.
