Taeyeon Shares Fan Statement Urging SM Entertainment to Address Japan Concert Cancellation
Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation has directly voiced her dismay over the recent cancellation of her Tokyo concerts by sharing a joint statement from her global fan union through Instagram. The statement, which calls out her agency, SM Entertainment, demands transparency, official apologies, and compensation for affected fans.
The fan statement harshly criticizes SM Entertainment for their “unilateral and insincere” notice of the cancellation of the Taeyeon concert ‘The TENSE’ in Tokyo, which was scheduled just two days before the event. They argue that even though the possibility of cancellation existed, it was irresponsibly announced at the last minute, showing a lack of proper communication and crisis handling.
Among the demands listed are:
- A full investigation to pinpoint the responsibility and impose disciplinary actions on individuals involved within SM Entertainment.
- An official apology and formal statement issued via Taeyeon’s official channels.
- Transparent disclosure of compensation plans for the financial and emotional damages suffered by fans.
- Guarantees that similar incidents won’t happen during upcoming ‘The TENSE’ tour dates, through structured and clear communication policies.
- A public declaration regarding the rescheduling or future plans for ‘The TENSE JAPAN’ concerts.
The fan group also criticized the distorted blame directed at Taeyeon personally, firmly stating that the artist should not be left alone to communicate or shoulder the fallout from corporate mishandling. Their message emphasized the need to protect her from being the face of controversial announcements.
Taeyeon shared this public plea through her Instagram post and uploaded the English version of the statement to her story, amplifying the message globally.
SM Entertainment announced the cancellation on May 17 via Taeyeon’s official Japanese fan site, explaining that key tour equipment had not yet arrived in Japan, compromising the ability to conduct a fully prepared show. Despite exploring every possible option, the label deemed it unfeasible to proceed under the current conditions.
In response, Taeyeon personally expressed her sadness and frustration through a fan platform, stating, “When the news broke, my heart sank thinking about S♡NE (her fandom). I didn’t know what to say. I hated every moment of this — it hurts so much. It feels like all our effort and anticipation were robbed in an instant. I’m left with emptiness and devastation.”
The situation has escalated into ongoing demands for better artist treatment and clearer policies regarding international tour logistics and communication.
