Sung Si-kyung Reflects on 61st Baeksang Arts Awards with Wit and Warmth
K-pop balladeer and entertainer Sung Si-kyung caught attention not with a trophy, but with charm and wit at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards, held on May 5. He light-heartedly shared his thoughts on Instagram, writing, “I was nervous thinking I might win.”
Alongside his post, Sung included a photo of himself walking the ceremony’s red carpet. In the caption, he mused, “Awards shows are like a World Cup of ideal types — you know it’s not yours, but your heart still races.”
The singer revealed that when he first got the call from the Baeksang team, he assumed it was to perform, not to be nominated. “I was honestly surprised to find out I was up for an award in the variety category,” he admitted.
Though he didn’t win, Sung extended heartfelt congratulations to fellow nominees and his friends in the industry. “Thanks to Yoo Jae-suk for keeping the atmosphere lively through such a long ceremony, and congrats to Shin Dong-yup for the win.”
The 2024 Variety Star Award eventually went to Shin Dong-yup over Sung, Yoo Jae-suk, DEX, and Kim Won-hoon.
Sung Si-kyung didn’t let the result dampen his spirits. He wrapped up his caption with a message of support: “Wishing all the amazing artists a great night.”
Beyond the awards stage, Sung continues to grow his media presence. Through his YouTube channel, he connects with fans via food content, interviews, and lifestyle vlogs. In February, he even ventured into the beverage business with the launch of his traditional Korean rice wine, Gyeongtakju 12 Degrees.
Sung Si-kyung proves that charm, humility, and entrepreneurial spirit can shine brighter than any trophy.
