Actor discusses his role and the series’ global success
Behind the Scenes with Son Suk-ku
On October 5th, at a cozy café in Samcheong-ro, Seoul, Son Suk-ku sat down to discuss his experience starring in Disney+ Original Series ‘Nine Puzzle’.
The Plot of ‘Nine Puzzle’
‘Nine Puzzle’ is a mystery thriller unraveling the secrets of a serial murder case. The protagonist ‘Ina’ (played by Kim Da-mi) is a profiler and sole witness from a decade-old unsolved case, teaming up with detective ‘Han Saem’ (played by Son Suk-ku), who suspects her. The series quickly climbed to the second most-watched Korean content on Disney+ worldwide, following ‘Moving’.
The Challenges Behind the Role
“The mystery genre was quite unfamiliar, and there were unpredictable elements,” Son explained. Despite initial concerns about losing momentum with staggered OTT releases, he expressed optimism: “Internally, today marks the real game since all episodes are available.”
Fans and Reactions
“I receive messages about being number one, but standards are often confusing,” Son shared with humor. He noted that fans often misconstrue Han Saem as the criminal, appreciating the storytelling depth: “Though it could have been a twist, ‘Nine Puzzle’ stands as a masterfully crafted mystery.”
Collaborating with Director Yoon Jong-bin
Son revealed his admiration for Director Yoon, highlighting his decision to join based on the director’s reputation rather than the script: “It was an honor to meet him, and his invitation was enough.” Son described Yoon not only as a director but also a mentor, guiding him in aspects beyond acting.
Son Suk-ku’s journey in ‘Nine Puzzle’ is a testament to passion, collaboration, and the artistry of Korean thriller genres.
