So Ji-sub Returns After 13 Years in Gritty Noir Action Series ‘Public Square’ on Netflix

So Ji-sub leads Netflix noir action drama Public Square premiering on June 4

Korean actor So Ji-sub is back in action, quite literally, with his return to the screen in Netflix’s upcoming noir drama series, Public Square. Marking his first action-centric role in 13 years, So Ji-sub portrays the enigmatic and tormented ‘Gijun’ — a man drawn back into a world he fought to leave behind.

The newly released stills reveal two dramatically contrasting sides of Gijun. One shows him in quiet solitude, sitting under his cap at a desolate campground — a man seemingly at peace. The other captures him locked in a brutal physical confrontation, hinting at the inner turmoil and the life he once led. These visuals stir curiosity about his painful past and the reasons behind his return.

Public Square tells the harrowing story of Gijun, a former elite enforcer who escaped from a ruthless criminal underworld by severing ties – literally and figuratively. But after more than a decade, the unexpected death of his brother Giseok, once the right-hand man of their organization, drags him back into the shadows. Gijun embarks on a chilling mission of vengeance, determined to uncover the truth behind his brother’s murder.

Additional images from the series intensify the anticipation. We see Gijun mercilessly choking his enemies, bloodied but unyielding in combat, and brandishing his signature weapon — a baseball bat — as he steps over fallen foes. These vignettes showcase the dark, solitary path of revenge he treads.

Set to premiere on June 4th at 4 PM KST, Public Square promises gripping action, emotional depth, and a haunting exploration of retribution. For fans of intense Korean dramas and gritty noir storytelling, So Ji-sub’s return is not to be missed.
