SEVENTEEN’s Phenomenal Success in Japan

The K-pop group SEVENTEEN has once again demonstrated its immense popularity in Japan. According to Japan’s Oricon on June 3rd, SEVENTEEN’s 5th studio album, HAPPY BURSTDAY, topped the latest ‘Weekly Album Ranking’ (dated June 9, data from May 26 – June 1) with a staggering 457,000 copies sold.

Record-breaking Achievements

– SEVENTEEN achieved the highest weekly album sales among all international male and female artists in Japan for the year.

– They have topped the chart a total of 14 times, maintaining their record for the most number-one spots among international artists.

– This marks the 10th consecutive time since their 2021 mini-album, Attacca, they have reached number one.

Explosive Reception in Japan

Upon release, HAPPY BURSTDAY received an explosive response in Japan. The album topped real-time and daily ‘Album Top 100’ charts on LINE MUSIC, in addition to reaching the pinnacle on iTunes and Apple Music ‘Top Albums’ charts.

* The Oricon ‘Daily Album Ranking’ saw SEVENTEEN at number one for six consecutive days (May 27 – June 1).

Global Chart Success

The album’s success wasn’t confined to Japan. In its first week of release (May 26 – June 1), the album sold over 2.52 million copies worldwide, topping Hanteo Chart‘s weekly album chart. This feat marked the highest first-week sales of any K-pop album released this year.

In China, HAPPY BURSTDAY* secured the number one spot on QQ Music‘s daily and weekly ‘Digital Best-seller Album’ charts.

Hit Single ‘THUNDER’

The title track ‘THUNDER’ also made waves, holding the top spot on Bugs‘ daily chart for three consecutive days (May 30 – June 1). It’s consistently remained in the upper echelon of Melon‘s ‘Top 100’.
