Run to Survive: Trot Singer Ahn Sung-hoon Emerges as a Marathon Ace
Run to Survive Crew Launches First Official Training
On June 26, the Maeil Broadcasting Network (MBN) variety show Run to Survive showcased the first official training session of the Run to Survive Crew under the leadership of Sean and deputy head Lee Young-pyo. Gathering at the Yeongju Civic Stadium, North Gyeongsang Province, 16 members were divided into three teams for a fierce Loyalty Marathon Challenge.
Intense Marathon Training
Split into ‘Sean VS Lee Young-pyo VS Yang Se-hyung’ teams, the members battled through a grueling 30 laps around a 400-meter track. Exhaustion set in, and many struggled to meet their portions, leading to frequent baton switches.
Ahn Sung-hoon’s Surprising Breakthrough
Among the chaos, trot singer Ahn Sung-hoon stood out. Previously seen as physically weak in the trot community, Ahn shocked everyone by overtaking competitors Jung Ho-young and Bang Eun-hee with ease. His hidden athletic abilities left an undeniable mark on the competition.
Displaying strong self-belief, Ahn stated, “I haven’t exercised much, not that I can’t exercise. I’m like an unscratched lottery ticket.” His outstanding performance impressed both teammates and competitors alike. Bae Sung-jae praised, “We recruited a very good athlete,” and Lee Young-pyo raised Ahn’s lap goal from six to eight after seeing his consistent and steady race.
Determination Shines Through
Despite nearing his physical limit, Ahn continued to push forward, humorously requesting an iced Americano during the race. He eventually completed 10 laps, covering one-third of the total distance solo, a phenomenal feat that energized Team Lee Young-pyo.
Cheered on by team members like Bae Yoon-jung and Yang Se-hyung, Ahn expressed his gratitude, saying, “Running together and being cheered on made the difficult run enjoyable and healing. It feels amazing to help my team.” His humble attitude further captured the hearts of both his teammates and the audience.
