South Korean trot sensation Hong Ji-yoon once again proved her musical prowess and stage presence during a thrilling special episode of MBN’s Korea-Japan Top Ten Show. The ‘Real Name Singer Contest’ special, aired on June 20, spotlighted a unique battle between ‘real name’ and ‘stage name’ teams, and Hong Ji-yoon stood out as a commanding figure for the real name group.

Teaming up with fellow artist Lee Su-yeon, Hong Ji-yoon performed a powerful duet of Dolppalmae against the team of Lin and Jin Hae-seong. Prior to their performance, Lee Su-yeon emotionally revealed, “Ji-yoon unnie is my role model. She’s the reason I dreamed of becoming a singer. Performing together today feels like a dream come true.”

Hong Ji-yoon responded with a warm smile, adding to the heartfelt atmosphere. The two delivered a captivating performance, showcasing perfect chemistry and strong vocals. With her dazzling stage presence often described as Trot Barbie, Hong Ji-yoon left the crowd in awe.

Ultimately, their synergy secured a victory over the Lin-X-Jin Hae-seong team. The excitement continued as Hong Ji-yoon faced her close friend Park Seo-jin in a one-on-one vocal battle. Highlights included witty exchanges, with Park referring to Hong Ji-yoon as his only female friend saved in his contacts. Her playful reaction, calling him out for not being the best at keeping in touch, drew laughter from the audience.

The competition intensified as Hong Ji-yoon took on Chunnyeonhak, a beloved trot number originally by Kim Yong-im. She elevated the performance further by integrating traditional Korean vocal techniques from her college friend Lee Seong-hyeon. The impactful performance received thunderous applause and once again led Hong Ji-yoon’s team to victory.

Hong Ji-yoon continues to build her international presence. She recently appeared with legendary artist Kim Yeon-ja on Japan’s prestigious Enka program, Jinsei, Uta ga Aru (translated as “Life, There Is a Song”), positioning herself as the next-generation icon of the trot Hallyu wave.

Currently, she is actively participating in various television programs, including KBS 2TV’s New Recipe Secrets, and promoting her new single Gari-rang, signaling an exciting chapter ahead for the rising star.
