Rising K-pop Duo CLOSE YOUR EYES Takes Center Stage as New Hosts of ‘Show Champion’
The K-pop industry is once again abuzz with the emergence of super rookies. Members of the group CLOSE YOUR EYES, Jeon Min-wook and Jang Yeo-jun, successfully made their debut as the ninth official MCs of MBC M’s live music broadcast ‘Show Champion’ on May 14. As they took over the iconic Wednesday 5 PM timeslot, the duo impressed viewers with their fluent commentary, engaging presence, and natural chemistry on air.
The two have been making waves since their debut. Their first single, ‘내 안의 모든 시와 소설은’ (translated: ‘Every Poem and Novel Within Me’), earned them the top spot on SBS M’s ‘The Show’ just six days after debut, and claimed No.1 on KBS2’s ‘Music Bank’ within nine days—a rare achievement even among established idols. Now, only two months post-debut, the group has cemented its status as one of the most promising acts of the year.
To commemorate their first day as MCs, Jeon Min-wook and Jang Yeo-jun presented a special stage—an electrifying cover of NCT U‘s track “Make A Wish (Birthday Song).” Jeon participated in recreating the rap verses, contributing to the performance’s uniqueness, while Jang captivated audiences with his smooth vocals and charisma. Their harmonious synergy and commanding stage presence received enthusiastic praise not only from domestic fans but also international audiences online.
Reflecting on their new role, the duo stated, “Becoming a music show MC has always been a dream for us. We’re truly honored and excited to meet fans weekly through ‘Show Champion.’ We promise to continue evolving as all-round artists.”
‘Show Champion’ broadcasts live every Wednesday at 5 PM KST on both MBC M and MBC every1.
Moving beyond their broadcast achievements, CLOSE YOUR EYES is gearing up for their first solo fan meeting tour ‘CLOSER MOMENTS’. Kicking off on May 24 and 25 at the Blue Square SOL Travel Hall in Seoul, the group will travel across Asia with scheduled stops in Yokohama (June 1), Osaka (June 14), Hong Kong (June 21), and Taipei (June 28). This marks a significant milestone for the group as they expand their reach and deepen their connection with global fans.
For CLOSE YOUR EYES, the spotlight is just beginning to shine. From chart dominance to broadcast takeovers, Jeon Min-wook and Jang Yeo-jun are showing what the next generation of K-pop icons is made of.
