Popular K-Drama ‘Study Group’ Eyes Season 2 With Potential Interquel Twist

TVINGs Study Group starring Hwang Minhyun begins early planning for upcoming Season 2

Korean streaming sensation ‘Study Group’ is gearing up for a much-anticipated return, as Studio Dragon confirmed that Season 2 is in its early planning stages. The original series, released on TVING on January 23, captivated audiences with a bold fusion of high school drama and intense action.

Led by Hwang Minhyun, formerly of NU’EST, alongside rising talents like Han Ji-eun, Cha Woo-min, Lee Jong-hyun, Shin Soo-hyun, and Yoon Sang-jung, ‘Study Group’ brought fresh energy to the high school action genre, resonating strongly with younger demographics. The show even topped TVING’s charts for five consecutive weeks in terms of new paid subscribers, solidifying its impact on the Korean streaming landscape.

At a recent Q1 2025 investor briefing, Studio Dragon officially included ‘Study Group Season 2’ in its upcoming release slate. Adding to the intrigue, the company revealed it is considering interquels—a narrative format exploring events between seasons—for the new installment.

While no cast, format, or broadcast platform has been confirmed yet, Star News reports that the sequel is very much in the ideation phase. A Studio Dragon spokesperson affirmed, “We are in early development for ‘Study Group’ Season 2, and are positive about moving forward with production.”

For fans across the globe, especially those following the career of Hwang Minhyun post-NU’EST, this news sharpens expectations for further K-drama excellence from TVING and Studio Dragon.
