Newlyweds Redefine Home Buying with Bold Choices on ‘Save Me! Holmes’

Save Me Holmes features couples who broke housing norms to find their perfect newlywed homes

On the June 8th episode of MBC’s variety show ‘Save Me! Holmes’, viewers were treated to a refreshing take on securing newlywed homes, as adventurous couples challenged the belief that only modern apartments can be perfect starter homes.

Breaking away from the typical ‘new-build or bust’ mentality, also dubbed ‘Freeze and die, but still choose new builds’, couples instead chose homes that aligned better with their lifestyle and values.

The tour began in Yeouido with a $150,000 deposit apartment offering a stunning view of the Han River. Although the complex was one of the oldest in the area, the interior was surprisingly modern, creating an impressive contrast.

Next was a heartwarming DIY project on Ulleungdo Island, where a couple in their third year of marriage lovingly restored a 43-year-old abandoned house into a home. Nicknamed the ‘pumpkin house’ due to its orange color scheme, the property also boasted a seaside bath with envy-inspiring views.

In Seongdong District, another couple showcased their $75,000 semi-deposit retro-themed house. Despite being situated in a quiet alley, its proximity to large residential complexes offered city-level infrastructure. Their multi-level home featured vintage wood tones and a spacious work studio.

Over in Jeonju, a soon-to-be-married “MacGyver husband” was in the process of fully remodeling a new home himself. Though unfinished and uninhabitable at the time of the shoot, his hardworking spirit and vision for a future with his partner earned him applause.

Hanam offered a budget-savvy option dubbed the “wealth-through-discomfort” method. The couple chose a redevelopment-targeted old townhouse, investing sweat equity to transform it into a European-style loft thanks to the wife’s design flair.

Lastly, a listing in Seochon, Jongno District, catered specifically to newlyweds seeking tranquility with an urban feel. The property stretched across the second and third floors and included a rooftop terrace with breathtaking views of both Inwangsan and Bukhansan.

From DI-whoah moments to strategic property hacks, the episode offered a compelling message: there’s more than one right way to start your happily ever after. ‘Save Me! Holmes’ airs every Thursday at 10 PM KST on Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
