NewJeans Faces Legal Restrictions: Unable to Promote Without ADOR

NewJeans faces legal challenges over contract with ADOR

Seoul Court Rules in Favor of ADOR in Legal Dispute with NewJeans

NewJeans’ Legal Challenge

The Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 52 has ruled that NewJeans must not engage in any entertainment activities independently or through third parties without prior approval or consent from ADOR until a first-trial verdict for their ongoing lawsuit is reached.

Penalty for Violations

The court further specified that should NewJeans violate this decision, they are required to pay damages of 1 billion won to ADOR for each infringement.

Background of the Dispute

Back in November, NewJeans declared their contract void citing ADOR’s non-fulfillment of its obligations, subsequently rebranding as NJZ and pursuing solo endeavors.

In December, ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court seeking confirmation of the validity of their exclusive contract with NewJeans. ADOR’s provisional disposition application was accepted by the court last month, marking a legal victory for ADOR.

Recent Developments

On March 21st, NewJeans submitted an objection to the court and suspended activities.

Future Prospects

For NewJeans to conduct independent promotions, they must secure a victory in the first trial regarding the validity of their exclusive contract. As the legal conflict between the two parties intensifies, the industry is keenly observing the outcome.
