Moon Se-yoon Reinvents Eel into Trendy Subway-Style Sandwich on ‘Tasty Guys’
Moon Se-yoon, a popular South Korean comedian and entertainer, has turned heads with a creative new dish on the May 9th episode of Comedy TV’s Tasty Guys. In a heartwarming special honoring Parents’ Day, the cast introduced viewers to Korean delicacies like grilled eel and spicy freshwater crab stew. However, Moon’s unexpected culinary twist stole the spotlight.
While tasting salt-grilled eel at their first stop, Moon reminisced about enjoying mackerel kebabs during his travels in Turkey. “If mackerel kebabs are that good, eel must be even better. That’s how the ‘Eel-way’ idea was born,” he shared, name-dropping a globally recognized sandwich chain as inspiration.
The show’s producers embraced the concept and set up a full spread with bread and toppings identical to that of the famous sandwich franchise. Moon then assembled his signature creation: slicing a 30cm loaf in half, filling it with fresh lettuce, olives, jalapeños, cucumbers, and a generous portion of eel, then topping it off with sauce—a gourmet upgrade of the chain’s classic menu.
The other cast members were visibly impressed, first by the appetizing visual and then by the unexpected burst of flavors. “This actually could be sold in stores,” one said. Moon agreed enthusiastically, expressing a strong desire to commercialize the product in the future.
Kim Hae-joon looked amazed as he devoured the eel sandwich, proclaiming it a perfect fusion of flavors. Meanwhile, Kim Jun-hyun humorously confessed, “I’ve never actually been inside that sandwich shop. Someone just always brought it to me because I was too intimidated to order.” Moon added with laughter, “I’ve only been there once—and even then, I only knew how to order because of the commercials!”
This light-hearted yet inventive culinary moment left viewers craving “Eel-way” and highlighted Moon Se-yoon’s knack for blending humor with gastronomic creativity on Tasty Guys.
