Meet the Unlikely Superpowered Misfits of Korea’s Newest Action-Comedy ‘High Five’

High Five reveals quirky superpowered characters in upcoming Korean action comedy film

South Korea’s film industry has unveiled another genre-bending cinematic experience with the upcoming action-comedy film ‘High Five’, set to premiere on June 3. Distribution company NEW released six vibrant character posters today, teasing audiences with unique superpowers and quirky personalities that promise a wild ride.

‘High Five’ revolves around five strangers who acquire bizarre superpowers through organ transplants. These characters must work together and survive in a world filled with those who covet their newfound abilities. The comic action narrative and offbeat storytelling set the stage for a truly unconventional superhero movie.

The posters highlight each character’s distinct flair:

  • Wanseo (played by Lee Jae-in) received a heart transplant and now showcases superhuman strength. She channels her power through martial arts, suggesting intense and kinetic action sequences.
  • Jiseong (Ahn Jae-hong) had his lungs replaced and now wields the power of high winds. Blown hair and a confident pose hint at gusty moves and visual spectacle.
  • Seonnyeo (Ra Mi-ran), following a kidney transplant, appears more radiant than ever. Though her power remains undisclosed, her mysterious aura is raising curiosity.
  • Yak-seon (Kim Hee-won) undergoes a liver transplant and earns a miraculous healing touch, introducing what may be the film’s most heartwarming power.
  • Jongmin (Oh Jung-se), intriguingly has no transplant but exudes a grounded strength derived from his devotion to his daughter Wanseo. His paternal protectiveness might be the most powerful force in the movie.
  • Lastly, Yeongchun (Park Jin-young), a cult leader who received a pancreas, gains the ability to reverse-aging. With an intense stare and youthful aura, he adds tension to the storyline.

Although the film also features acclaimed actor Yoo Ah-in, his role appears to be discreetly minimized, as with his last film ‘The Match’. This subtle exclusion sparks intrigue among fans and critics alike.

Combining slapstick, suspense, and superhuman flair, ‘High Five’ is shaping up to be a must-watch summer blockbuster for fans of unconventional heroes and Korean cinema alike.
