MBC’s ‘Lawyer Woo Jin’ Blends Labor Rights and the Supernatural with a Comedic Twist
MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday Drama ‘Lawyer Woo Jin’ is set to premiere on May 30 at 9:50 PM, offering a uniquely compelling mix of comedy, fantasy, and social commentary. Starring Jung Kyung-ho, Seol In-ah, and Cha Hak-yeon, the show follows Woo Jin, a labor attorney with no ideological background who inadvertently becomes a voice for the voiceless — namely, ghosts with unresolved labor issues.
Directed by celebrated filmmaker Lim Soon-rye (‘Our Happiest Moment’, ‘Negotiation’) and scripted by Kim Bo-tong (‘Deserter Pursuit’) and Yoo Seung-hee (‘I Can Speak’), the series promises dynamic storytelling backed by some of Korea’s most respected creators in film and television.
Woo Jin is portrayed as a practical, even apathetic, labor attorney scraping by to pay his office rent. His life takes a turn when a near-death experience leaves him with the unsettling ability to see ghosts — workers who died due to workplace accidents. Reluctantly, he begins to accept paranormal cases, helping these spirits find closure in their posthumous quest for justice.
Joining Woo Jin are his fiery sister-in-law Na Hee-joo (played by Seol In-ah), and quirky video content creator Go Kyun-woo (played by Cha Hak-yeon), forming the spirited trio dubbed “Woo Jin’s Team.” The trio will help ghostly clients navigate everything from neglected safety violations to unresolved workplace discrimination.
The recently unveiled character posters showcase Woo Jin swarmed by spectral clients, including part-timer Yoon-jae (Yoo Sun-ho), Min-wook (Park Su-o), Eun-young (Hwang Bo-reum-byeol), and Young-sook (Kang Ae-shim) — all appearing relatable and eerily normal. Their request? Resolve their unfinished business and bring them peace.
Adding to the intrigue is a mysterious monk-like figure portrayed by Tang Jun-sang. He seals a supernatural labor contract with Woo Jin, toying with him and forcing him further into the ghost world while providing comic tension within the team dynamic.
One highlight of the series is the chemistry between the skeptical Woo Jin, the spirited Hee-joo, and the ever-enthusiastic Kyun-woo. While Woo Jin appears drained from ghost interactions, his teammates remain blissfully unaware and vibrant, indicating a comedy-driven supernatural thriller perfect for both laughs and reflection on real-world labor issues.
Don’t miss the premiere of ‘Lawyer Woo Jin’ on May 30 — a comic fantasy that aims to entertain and provoke thought about justice, unseen struggles, and how far the living (and the dead) will go to be heard.
