Legends of Korean Football Pursue Victory and Philanthropy on KBS 2TV’s ‘Ballunteer’

On June 19, the latest episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Ballunteer’ delivered an electrifying showdown against the Gangwon United in their second quest for national futsal dominance. The team, composed of retired Korean football legends, secured their second consecutive clean-sheet win, igniting a dopamine rush for fans across the country.

Following their victory in the first match against the Gyeongsang United, the team maintained its momentum, shutting out the Gangwon squad and increasing their potential donation amount to ₩10 million.

The initial match saw the Ballunteer squad take on Cheorwon FC, a semi-professional team in Korea’s K5 league. Former national team icon Cho Won-hee scored the opener, while Jeon Gaeul sealed the match with a second goal, bringing the score to 2–0.

In their subsequent match, the team faced physical powerhouse Chuncheon JWFS. Despite being heavily pressed, defensive key player Kim Dong-cheol masterfully neutralized their ace Yeom Won-seok. The match culminated in a nail-biting penalty shootout, ending in a 5–4 triumph for Ballunteer.

With Baek Ji-hoon absent due to injury, rising U-17 national team player Kim Ye-geon stepped in. Known for his dazzling footwork and playmaking, Kim shined on debut, assisting Cho Won-hee’s pivotal first goal through a sharp pass. Kim recently led Korea to the semifinals in the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup, notably scoring during the tournament and asserting himself as a vital asset.

More than just competition, ‘Ballunteer’ carries a greater mission—giving back through the beautiful game. The program features football legends who bring both grit and heart to every match, rekindling the passion of fans. Viewers and opponents alike have been struck by their skill level. One opposing player noted, “They still play like they’re in their prime.”

All match winnings are donated to causes like pediatric cancer treatment and wildfire recovery efforts. As co-captain Lee Young-pyo explained, “Maintaining your game post-retirement isn’t easy, but giving back is what drives us.” Teammate Lee Chan-won added, “This show isn’t your typical sports variety. Every view can make a meaningful difference.”

‘Ballunteer’ continues to earn praise as a feel-good show with real-world impact, pairing fun with philanthropy and showcasing how retired stars are shining brighter than ever—on and off the pitch.

The national futsal series continues next week as Ballunteer takes on the next segment of the Gangwon alliance.
