Lee Jun-young Delivers Laughs and Unexpected Chaos in KBS2’s ‘Pump Up the Healthy Love’
Lee Jun-young, the former K-pop idol and rising actor, has taken over living rooms with an outrageous, laugh-out-loud performance in the latest episode of KBS2’s Wednesday-Thursday drama, Pump Up the Healthy Love. Airing on May 8th, the episode showcases Jun-young’s flawless comedic timing and physical humor as he portrayed Do Hyun-jung, a once-celebrated bodybuilder now managing a rundown fitness center.
The drama itself is a blend of muscles, heartwarming growth, and romantic comedy, centering around Hyun-jung’s journey to inspire his eccentric gym members, all while dealing with his own personal struggles. In this week’s episode, Hyun-jung confronts a series of chaotic scenarios—from dropping weights on clients to inhaling fried chicken as a self-punishment ritual.
One standout moment features Hyun-jung interrupting Mi-ran (played by Jung Eun-ji) during her solo chicken feast, snatching a drumstick mid-sentence and justifying it by claiming, “This high-calorie fat bomb is my punishment.” The unexpected intensity of Lee’s performance left fans shocked and in stitches, especially since his character is known for an ultra-strict diet.
Another comedy highlight includes Hyun-jung accidentally drinking soju, mistaking it for water, and drunkenly sitting on Mi-ran’s lap while loudly commenting on her “double chin,” showcasing just how far the character has unhinged from his normal disciplined persona.
Despite the absurdity, the drama also had touching moments, such as when Hyun-jung gave an injured Rosa (played by Lee Mi-do) a sweet red bean jelly and praised her as “the best athlete I’ve ever seen.” The emotional encouragement provided an uplifting contrast, once again demonstrating Lee Jun-young’s range as an actor.
The episode concluded with a mysterious twist, as a young child ran into the gym shouting “Dad!” towards Hyun-jung, raising questions and anticipation for the next episode.
Pump Up the Healthy Love airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM KST on KBS2.
