Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon Donate $150,000 to Empower Youth Leaving Foster Care
Musician couple Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon have once again shown their commitment to giving back. On April 19, they donated 200 million KRW (approximately $150,000 USD) to support young adults transitioning out of the foster care system in Korea.
The donation was made through a Korean nonprofit organization known as Arumdaun Foundation (아름다운재단), which has been actively supporting youth programs across the nation. This sizable contribution aims to fund educational and living expenses, as well as career exploration activities for these young individuals who are preparing to live independently.
This act of generosity is especially notable as it marks over a decade of Lee Hyori’s collaboration with the Arumdaun Foundation. Lee Sang-soon, who has also advocated for social welfare issues, joined his wife in this impactful donation, reflecting a shared commitment to social responsibility.
“We decided to contribute to help young adults take their first step into independent life with confidence,” the couple stated. “We hope each person discovers their true self and dreams boldly about the future.”
This donation is expected to significantly aid self-reliant youth in building stable lives and becoming active members of society. With rising public awareness of the challenges faced by young adults aging out of foster care, the couple’s advocacy brings much-needed attention and resources to an often overlooked group.
