Emerging Star at BIFAN 2023
Kwon Ip-sae, a budding star in the indie film scene, is set to grace the 29th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) with her presence. Scheduled to open on July 3, 2023, BIFAN will feature Kwon in two intriguing film entries: the feature film Baljja and the short film Mongjungmong.
Starring in Baljja
In the feature film Baljja, directed by Deuk-yang, Kwon portrays the lead role of Mirim. The narrative intricately intertwines themes of past curses, guilt, and elements of Buddhism, shamanism, and the occult. Kwon’s performance is expected to be both eerie and captivating as her character navigates through this intense storyline.
A Short Film with Depth: Mongjungmong
Directed by Kwon Hyunji, Mongjungmong sees Kwon as Dan, an aspiring director preparing to study film in Paris, France. The film delves into her internal conflict and guilt about leaving her mother behind. As Dan prepares for her journey abroad, she embarks on a peculiar quest to find her mother’s missing backbone, metaphorically exploring themes of familial duty and personal ambition.
A Promising Indie Film Career
Having previously made waves at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival, Kwon Ip-sae is no stranger to the festival circuit. Her performance in the indie feature Unknown Variable garnered her the Best Screenplay award at the 12th Wildflower Film Awards. Kwon is steadily carving out a name for herself in the world of independent cinema.
Engaging with Fans
During BIFAN 2023, Kwon is slated to participate in GV (Guest Visit) sessions for both Baljja and Mongjungmong, offering audiences an invaluable opportunity to interact with her. Beyond films, she’s also active in TV dramas, musicals, and recently appeared as a new embalmer in Disney+’s original series, Lighting Store.
