KPop Star Jeong Dong-won Goes Full Survivalist in Wild YouTube Series
Rising K-pop icon Jeong Dong-won, best known for his musical talent, has stepped out of the studio and into the wilderness. His new YouTube series, ‘Ggang Guy’, launched its first episode on June 8, featuring a hilarious and down-to-earth partnership with veteran MC Yoon Taek from the beloved Korean survival show ‘I Am a Natural Person’.
Set deep in the scenic mountains of Yeongwol, South Korea, this unconventional survival show is packed with laughs, prosthetics, and some seriously wild meals. In a pre-shoot interview, Jeong confessed he’s always been intrigued by the no-frills meals in the original survival program. “They don’t even gut the fish — they just cook it whole. I really want to taste true natural-man food,” he said with excited curiosity.
Jeong boldly told the crew, “A man keeps his word. I even could eat a live worm.” And he wasn’t kidding. This 19-year-old rising star is gearing up for adulthood by proving he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty — even if it meant eating American bullfrog stew or stir-fried beetle larvae known as gumeong-ee.
The duo didn’t hold back in embracing their inner ‘wild men’. Jeong sprayed his hair into a bright Mohawk and used campfire soot to create a rugged beard look, delivering peak visual comedy. But laughs aside, things got real when Yoon introduced him to what he called the “worst ingredients” in survival cuisine: dried bullfrog, live beetles, and a massive giant carp. The sight of the carp made Jeong freeze — he recalled watching his grandfather gut fish as a child, a memory that clearly left a lasting impression.
Despite his fears, Jeong handled the prep work with surprising skill, whipping up bizarre but traditional Korean dishes including frog Doenjang Jjigae and worm stir-fry. His combo of fearless eating and exaggerated reactions made the show an instant hit online.
In a particularly dramatic moment, as the massive carp lay waiting, Jeong declared, “A man doesn’t quit.” Moments later, he hilariously fled from the flopping fish, closing the episode on a signature comedic high note.
This unique blend of nature, food challenges, and K-pop flair is the foundation of ‘Ggang Guy’ — a weekly series documenting Jeong Dong-won’s bold journey to manhood. New episodes air every Thursday at 6pm KST on his official YouTube channel.
Additionally, Jeong will be connecting with fans on his nationwide tour, with concerts scheduled on May 10-11 in Seongnam, May 24-25 in Suwon, and May 31 to June 1 in Daejeon. Tickets and show details are available on Interpark Ticket.
