Kim Tae-ri Wins Best Actress at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards for Her Riveting Role in ‘Jeong Nyeoni’
Kim Tae-ri has once again captured the spotlight by taking home the Best Actress award at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards for her performance in tvN’s period drama Jeong Nyeoni.
The Baeksang Arts Awards is one of South Korea’s most prestigious award ceremonies, established in 1965 to celebrate excellence and achievement in Korean television, film, and theater. At this year’s ceremony on May 5th, Kim was recognized for her remarkable portrayal of Yoon Jeong-nyeon, a gifted voice actress aspiring to become a ‘gukgeuk’—a traditional Korean opera—performer in a bygone era.
Through her role, Kim not only earned widespread praise from critics and audiences alike, but also helped reignite cultural interest in the lesser-known genre of female gugak opera. Her dedication to authenticity in voice and movement created a compelling character that resonated across generations.
During her acceptance speech, Kim humbly shared, “It was an honor to depict the most resplendent era of female gugak. I tried my best not to compromise. It wasn’t always the right path, but that pursuit was my own version of romance at the time.” She added, “I see my shortcomings as a form of inspiration to do better, and I will continue striving without shame in my ambition to grow.”
This marks the second time Kim has received the Best Actress award at the Baeksang Arts Awards, having previously won in 2022 for her performance in Twenty-Five Twenty-One. Demonstrating her artistic range and depth, her latest win cements her status as one of South Korea’s premier talents.
Fans can look forward to seeing Kim Tae-ri next in the groundbreaking Korean animated film This World Needs, set to premiere globally on Netflix on May 30th.
