Kim Jae-wook Stuns in Pictorial Ahead of Netflix Mystery Melodrama ‘Dear Hongrang’

South Korean actor Kim Jae-wook showcases a new visual transformation in a stunning photoshoot unveiled ahead of his upcoming Netflix period melodrama series, Dear Hongrang.

Dear Hongrang tells the intriguing story of Hongrang, the long-lost son of the Joseon dynasty’s wealthiest merchant house, who returns after 12 years with no memory of his past. As tension brews, only his half-sister, Jae-i, questions his identity — setting the stage for unexpected emotions and mysterious revelations.

Kim will portray ‘Prince Hanpyeong,’ a royal sibling known for his exquisite artistic sensibility and skills as a painter. Through his Singles magazine editorial shoot, Kim displayed an array of style interpretations, capturing a mood both regal and contemporary.

In the following interview, Kim emphasized how Dear Hongrang demanded a level of preparation unlike any other. “Because it’s a historical period piece, extensive groundwork was essential. I couldn’t just step onto set unprepared,” he confessed.

Kim also opened up about his experience filming Melodrama Movie. “I tried to approach the role with fewer expectations and less pressure, both emotionally and visually,” he remarked. “With Go-jun, I realized this character wouldn’t simply be defined by my performance — I had to immerse myself in the atmosphere to truly convey him.”

In Melodrama Movie, Kim took on a character unlike any he’s portrayed in the past. Reflecting on the moment he accepted the role, he shared, “When I was offered the part, I was already juggling the filming of Dear Hongrang and rehearsals for the musical Pagwa. Yet the script felt fated. It was the kind of role I had been waiting for, and I knew if I passed on it now, it might never come again.”

When asked about what type of roles he still hopes to tackle, Kim beamed, “I really want to try a full-on action role. Although I feel like I might be a little late — my body already aches in places — I still want to give it a shot. Oh, and a deeply emotional romantic role too. Please make sure you write that part down,” he laughed.

With both Dear Hongrang and Melodrama Movie on the horizon, Kim Jae-wook continues to prove why he remains one of Korea’s most versatile and compelling actors.
