Kim Hye-yoon to Star in New Horror Film ‘Big Sleep’: Screen Debuts, Rising Stars, and a Mysterious Reservoir

Big Sleep Korean horror kicks off with Kim Hye-yoon Lee Jong-won and fresh faces entering film scene

South Korea’s talented actress Kim Hye-yoon, best known for her breakout role driving the ‘Sparkling Watermelon’ phenomenon, is set to headline an upcoming horror film tentatively titled Big Sleep.

The film, produced and distributed by Showbox, officially started filming on the 10th and promises to deliver an immersive horror experience inspired by real-world tech phenomena. The plot follows a road-view mapping team that ventures to a reservoir after capturing a mysterious figure on a satellite image, only to confront an unknown darkness lurking beneath the surface.

Alongside Kim Hye-yoon, the cast includes Lee Jong-won, and Kim Jun-han, who plays Gyo-shik, the supervisor of Kim’s character Soo-in. Rising stars Kim Young-sung and Oh Dong-min portray brothers operating a road-view filming agency — their contrasting energies adding fresh layers to the narrative. Kim Young-sung recently captured attention by winning the New Actor Award at the 2024 Busan Film Critics Awards for his performance in Big Sleep.

Oh Dong-min, known for his roles in Love in the Big City and Netflix’s Seoul Vampires (Season 2), plays Kyung-jun, a former Navy rescue diver turned field director.

The film also marks the screen debuts of Yoon Jae-chan and Jang Da-ah. Yoon, who shone in dramas such as Love on the Bridge, Such an Intimate Betrayal, and Sparkling Watermelon, will play Sung-bin, the youngest team member who follows Soo-in to the site. Meanwhile, Jang Da-ah, famed for her role in Pyramid Game and as the elder sister of IVE’s Jang Won-young, transforms into Se-jung, a creator running a horror-themed broadcasting channel.

Director Lee Sang-min expressed excitement for the journey ahead, saying, “Meeting such exceptional actors and staff makes every moment feel like a dream. We’re focused on crafting a film that’s not just watched, but deeply experienced in theaters.”
