South Korean Cartoonist and Entertainer Relives Military Days in Intense TV Challenge

Kian84 Endures Grueling Military Exercises on MBC’s ‘Born to Travel Around the World 4’
Popular South Korean cartoonist and TV personality Kian84 recently opened up about his personal experiences as he faced intense training with the legendary Gurkha forces on MBC’s hit reality show, Born to Travel Around the World 4. The show’s third episode, which aired on June 25, showcased Kian84 and fellow cast members—Lee Si Eon, Dex, and Pani Bottle—taking part in challenging drills at the world-renowned Gurkha training center.
The group underwent a demanding physical endurance test, carrying 20kg loads while running back and forth for nine full laps. Following the workout, the cast joined the Gurkha recruits for English and math study sessions, experiencing firsthand the strict academic and physical routines required for selection.
The crew also attempted a Gurkha entrance exam equivalent to a high school freshman level. Kian84 bravely tried to tackle five questions without a translator, only to score zero points. The other members managed just two points, reflecting the difficulty and rigor of the process.
Later, the cast toured the trainees’ humble dormitories, observing the challenging living conditions. The visit stirred up memories of their own past training experiences. In a moment of vulnerability, Kian84 shared, “I found military service tough because I struggled with communal living.” Archival photos of him in uniform during his youth were shown, adding a personal touch to the broadcast and highlighting his deep respect for the determined young trainees.
During an English study break, Kian84 connected with a Gurkha recruit who revealed that he is an only son, lost his father nine months ago, has poor math grades, and hasn’t seen his girlfriend in four months. The conversation moved Kian84: “I was reminded of my own youth—vulnerable but endearing,” he remarked, reflecting on the hardships faced by young people in rigorous environments.
As light-hearted moments ensued, the trainee asked Kian84 about marriage plans. Attempting to answer in English, Kian84 accidentally said he wanted to get married “two years ago,” rather than “in two years,” prompting laughter and charming awkwardness among the group.
The episode highlighted not only the physical and academic demands of joining the famed Gurkha forces but also the emotional journeys of the trainees and cast members alike. Through these shared experiences, Born to Travel Around the World 4 continues to resonate with audiences, blending humor, heart, and the spirit of adventure.
