KBS’s New Show ‘Gaojeong’ Brings Warmth to Remote Villages
The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) is set to introduce a new variety series titled ‘Gaojeong’, translated as ‘Sending and Receiving Affection with Lee Min-jung’, aiming to deliver daily necessities to rural communities while sharing heartfelt stories and human connection.
Headlined by veteran actress Lee Min-jung as the main host, the show features a fixed cast including entertainers Boom, Ahn Jae-hyun, Kim Jung-hyun, and Kim Jae-won. Together, the group embarks on a mission in a mobile convenience store van to visit underserved village residents, spend a night with them, and foster meaningful exchanges.
During an interview released on June 12 by the show’s producers, the cast shared their reasons for joining the program. Boom remarked, “I was drawn to the title alone. I’m a person full of affection, and I believe that affection should be reciprocated. That’s exactly what this program aims for. Plus, collaborating with Lee Min-jung, known as the world champion of affection in the entertainment industry, sealed the deal for me.”
Ahn Jae-hyun shared a more emotional motivation. “While basic necessities are easy to come by in the city, I learned they can take over an hour to access in rural areas. I joined the show to offer even the smallest but essential help to the elderly,” he said. “I hope to share warmth and learn life lessons in return through honest conversations with them.”
Kim Jung-hyun, who is making his first fixed variety appearance, admitted to mixed feelings. “It’s definitely a challenge, but also an exciting unfamiliar territory. Meeting the staff and cast reassured me that my inexperience might be seen instead as sincerity and freshness.”
Youngest member Kim Jae-won echoed the excitement, sharing that acting role-wise is different from showing his true self. “I’ve always wanted to showcase the real Kim Jae-won—cheerful and energetic. When they asked if I wanted to join, I immediately said yes.” He added, “Since I’m just being myself, I won’t stress too much.”
Unlike novices Kim Jae-won and Kim Jung-hyun, seasoned entertainers Boom and Ahn Jae-hyun prepared thoroughly for outdoor filming. Boom revealed, “Before each shoot, I remind myself to offer the best service possible to those in need. Oh, and I always take black garlic the day before—it’s my power source!” Ahn quipped, “When I approach the shoot thinking, ‘Let’s at least sleep at home,’ it tends to be more fun. I make sure to get enough rest the day before.”
‘Gaojeong’ promises viewers not only heartfelt moments but also a deeper insight into life in Korea’s countryside, while warmly reflecting the bonds formed through sincere connections. The show is expected to resonate with those who value community, service, and the gentle power of human kindness.
