K-Pop Ballad Singer KCM Emotionally Reveals His Daughters to the Public for the First Time
During the May 7th episode of Radio Star, a special Mother’s Day broadcast on South Korea’s Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), ballad singer KCM made headlines by publicly revealing his two daughters for the first time. Joining fellow guests Song Il-gook, actress Oh Min-ae, and television personality Jung Si-ah, KCM shared the emotional reasons behind keeping his family private for so long.
KCM explained that he initially planned to hold a wedding ceremony during the COVID-19 pandemic but circumstances led to a modest family vow ceremony. “My wife wanted to have a wedding, even if small,” he shared. “Before that, I thought we should introduce our daughters to the world so that everything would feel more comfortable.”
Although the public had not known, many fans and close acquaintances were already aware of his daughters. “It wasn’t that I was hiding them—we went out together all the time,” he said. “My older daughter’s friends even came to my concerts, and we often visited amusement parks. My fans respected our privacy by quietly supporting us.”
Despite this, KCM admitted to struggling with the decision to go public, particularly because of his concern for his older daughter, now in adolescence. “I worried she might get hurt by public scrutiny,” he confessed. “But she was the one who gave me strength. She told me, ‘Dad, are you okay? It’s okay if you want to tell them.’ That gave me courage.”
KCM’s reasons for keeping his children out of the media eye stemmed not only from privacy but also from deeper personal struggles. “My first daughter was born while I was in the military,” he revealed. “Back then, I was going through a tough time with contract disputes and personal issues. I was even swindled by someone I trusted and ended up in significant debt—our house almost got seized.”
He continued, “I was scared. I thought if I filed a marriage registration in that situation, my debt would become a burden for my family. I was under so much stress that I developed shingles and even had some very dark thoughts.”
Fighting back tears, KCM said, “I didn’t have the courage to introduce my child to the world at the time. Looking back, I regret it deeply and feel so sorry.”
Despite his internal battles, KCM always held steadfast love for his family. In 2021, he legally married his longtime non-celebrity partner, whom he had dated for a decade. The following year, they held a quiet vow ceremony among close family and friends. Now, with his two daughters—aged 14 and 4—he’s opening up about the life he had kept hidden for so long.
