K-Horror Thriller ‘Noise’ Brings Apartment Tensions to the Big Screen

Korean movie Noise set in highrise apartments brings realistic horror and suspense to film festival stage

Upcoming Korean horror thriller ‘Noise’ is turning heads with newly released stills ahead of its June release. Directed by Kim Su-jin, the film tackles the increasingly relevant issue of apartment noise complaints, blending social commentary with spine-chilling suspense.

‘Noise’ follows the story of Juyoung (played by rising star Lee Sun-bin) as she searches for her missing younger sister in an apartment complex infamous for constant noise disturbances. As she navigates the building’s eerie hallways and hidden corners, she becomes entangled in a web of mystery and fear amplified by the claustrophobic environment.

The official stills offer a haunting glimpse into the film: a warning note about noise complaints taped to a door, a blood-chilling moment when Ryu Kyung-soo’s character stands with a knife at the entrance, and a suspenseful nighttime scene where Juyoung peers into the building’s basement through a shattered window. These visuals not only convey a gripping narrative but also heighten the tension typical of the horror-thriller genre.

Additional scenes show Kim Min-seok’s character, Ki-hoon, joining Juyoung in the escalating search for the missing sister. Han Soo-ah’s character Joo-hee adds to the mystery when she encounters a suspicious visitor through her apartment intercom. These elements combine to create a tense atmosphere, drawing viewers deep into the unsettling daily life within the apartment walls.

Internationally, ‘Noise’ is already garnering acclaim, having been officially invited to several renowned genre film festivals. The movie was selected for the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival’s Panorama Section, Germany’s Fantasy Filmfest Nights, and Romania’s Transilvania International Film Festival. These selections signal strong global anticipation for the film, placing it alongside other recognized Korean thrillers like ‘Exhuma’ and ‘Escape’.

With Kim Su-jin’s sharp direction and a talented cast, ‘Noise’ is poised to captivate audiences looking for a sophisticated yet unsettling cinematic experience. The exact release date will be revealed soon, but the buzz has already begun to echo beyond Korea.
