Jungkook’s ‘GOLDEN’ Sets Unprecedented Milestones Across Global Music Charts
Jungkook, the golden-voiced member of BTS, continues to break records globally with his first solo album ‘GOLDEN’, released in November 2023. The album has established itself as one of the most successful solo releases in K-pop history, dominating global charts for an extended period.
‘GOLDEN’ recently marked an extraordinary milestone by staying in the European iTunes Albums Chart for 200 days — a historic feat for any Asian artist. Not only is this a first, but the album also claimed the number one spot on the chart for a total of seven days, demonstrating Jungkook’s undeniable popularity across Europe.
On a global scale, ‘GOLDEN’ charted on the Worldwide iTunes Albums Chart for over 390 days, reaching number one for 14 of those days. It also made waves on Apple Music, ranking for more than 500 days on the Worldwide Apple Music Albums Chart — the longest for any K-pop solo artist. In Europe, it sustained an impressive 400-day run on the European Apple Music Albums Chart.
The record-breaking streak continues on Spotify, where ‘GOLDEN’ became the first Asian solo album to chart on the Weekly Top Albums Global Chart for 79 consecutive weeks. To add to his accolades, Jungkook’s solo release amassed over 5.5 billion streams, an unmatched benchmark for an Asian solo artist.
In the United States, BILLBOARD recognized ‘GOLDEN’ with a number 2 debut on the Billboard 200 and a landmark 25-week chart run — the longest ever for an Asian solo artist. Meanwhile, in the UK, the album stayed on the UK Official Top 100 Albums Chart for 8 weeks, setting a new record for K-pop solo acts.
Further affirming its worldwide appeal, ‘GOLDEN’ reached #1 on the iTunes Albums Chart in 106 countries and achieved over 9.2 million equivalent album sales (EAS), securing the title of best-selling K-pop solo album in history.
Renowned Western music and media platforms have also recognized Jungkook’s solo excellence. Rolling Stone named ‘GOLDEN’ among the “Best Music of 2023,” while MTV honored it in their “Record-Breaking Albums of 2023” list. The New York Times and Uproxx also featured it among their Best Albums of 2023.
In a nod to his fashion-icon status, Apple Music included ‘GOLDEN’ in its exclusive “Met Gala-Worthy Looks” album list — the sole Asian male artist featured.
Currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, Jungkook is set to return to fans on June 11, and expectations are already sky-high for his next musical chapter.
