Jung Yong-joo Delivers a Chilling Turn in Lee Byung-hun’s Thriller Short Series
Veteran actor Jung Yong-joo has left a lasting impression in the newly released short-form drama ‘Unknown Creator’, directed by Lee Byung-hun. Released via YouTube on the 5th, episodes 3 and 4 feature Jung embodying a chilling role as a convicted killer responsible for the tragic accident that killed character Zzami’s ex-lover.
Jung joined the short-form human comedy thriller at the personal invitation of director Lee Byung-hun. The drama follows the unique bond between ‘Mini,’ a struggling actress who has never passed an audition, and ‘Zzami,’ a mysterious man selling egg bread while hiding a past of vengeance. Together, their paths cross in a story filled with forgiveness, emotional growth, and dark suspense.
Yiruma, the internationally acclaimed pianist and composer, joins the crew as music director, adding a lyrical depth to the project.
Jung Yong-joo’s character reappears post-prison sentence, shifting the atmosphere instantly with his cold demeanor. Viewers were particularly struck by his portrayal of remorseless evil, intensified by a vivid fantasy sequence in which he suffers Zzami’s imagined revenge—a scene that deepened audience immersion.
“It was an honor to participate in a project with director Lee Byung-hun. Even in such a short script, his unique storytelling tone was deeply evident,” said Jung. He praised Lee’s creative approach and expressed hopes that the project marks the beginning of a new era in platform-based storytelling.
Discussing his role, Jung added, “My character’s presence was key to building suspense. I focused on ensuring the character’s impact spiked viewer engagement instantly.” He also reflected on the drama’s title, saying, “I interpreted all the characters as perhaps being ‘Unknown Creators’ in their own right.”
This powerful performance follows Jung Yong-joo’s dynamic turns in previous works like History of Losers, Motel California, and Flowers Bloom at Night, showcasing his versatility across genres and formats.
