JTBC’s ‘Good Boy’ Sets the Stage for a Thrilling Action-Comedy Drama
JTBC (Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company) has unveiled an inside look at the high-energy script reading session for its upcoming weekend drama ‘Good Boy’, signaling the arrival of a comic-action youth investigation series that’s already being dubbed legendary by fans.
Held in March at JTBC’s Sangam headquarters, the script reading session was led by director Shim Na-yeon and writer Lee Dae-il. The room buzzed with anticipation as powerhouse actors such as Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok immersed themselves in their roles alongside seasoned veterans Seo Hyun-chul, Jung Man-sik, Park Chul-min, Seo Jung-yeon, and Seo Jae-hee.
Park Bo-gum takes the lead as Yoon Dong-joo, a former Olympic boxing gold medalist turned passionate rookie detective in a special task force. With fiery charisma and steadfast justice, Bo-gum delivered a fresh side of himself, exuding a powerful presence even in the early stages of rehearsal.
Meanwhile, Kim So-hyun impressed with her portrayal of Ji Han-na, a fearless sharpshooter and fellow detective, channeling both boldness and vulnerability in a magnetic debut for the role. Armed with her past action experience, So-hyun now adds firearms to her arsenal, promising thrilling performances ahead.
Veteran actor Oh Jung-se brings the edge as Min Ju-young, a customs officer by day and the city’s underground ruler by night. His uncanny ability to balance normalcy with evil sent chills through the room, elevating expectations for an unforgettable villain.
Lee Sang-yi joins as Kim Jong-hyun, a fencing silver medalist turned elite officer whose blend of intellect and strength adds a new dimension to the team, while Heo Sung-tae plays Go Man-sik, a wrestling bronze medalist turned team leader whose realistic and comedic acting grounds the drama in warmth and relatability.
Also part of the ensemble is Tae Won-seok as Shin Jae-hong, a formidable ex-discus thrower and soft-hearted detective whose duality instantly captured attention. The five ‘Good Boys’ showcase impeccable chemistry right from the start, living up to their nickname ‘Goodvengers’ with synchronized banter and fiery team energy.
The powerful supporting cast rounds out the narrative tapestry. Seo Hyun-chul plays Hwang Kyung-chul, the department chief and Go Man-sik’s trusted companion; Jung Man-sik stars as former national boxing coach and private security head Oh Jong-goo; Park Chul-min portrays Kim Geum-nam, an information broker and pawnshop owner; Seo Jung-yeon appears as noodle shop owner Jung Mi-ja; and Seo Jae-hee plays Jin Kyung-sook, Ji Han-na’s strong-willed mother and insurance agent.
The production team stated, “From day one, the cast fully embodied their characters. The exhilarating mix of laughter, tension, action, and youth creates a unique energy that is already palpable. Viewers can expect an electrifying catharsis as these characters take bold steps toward justice stronger than any gold medal.”
‘Good Boy’ premieres on JTBC on Saturday, May 31 at 10:40 PM KST.
