Jimin Earns American Music Awards Nod While Serving in the Military
Even while fulfilling his mandatory military service, Jimin of BTS (Beyond the Scene) continues to exert his undeniable presence on the global music stage.
On May 23 (local time), the American Music Awards (AMA) officially announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony, revealing that Jimin was nominated for the Favorite K-Pop Artist category.
This recognition comes on the heels of his win at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards in March, where Jimin took home the K-Pop Song of the Year award for “Who,” the title track from his sophomore solo album MUSE. This marks not only a continuation of his solo success but also solidifies his influence over the American music industry.
The American Music Awards is widely regarded as one of the top three music awards in the United States, alongside the Grammy Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. It honors the most impactful and iconic artists of the year, making this nomination a significant accolade in Jimin’s already illustrious career.
Jimin’s track “Who,” released in July last year, achieved a milestone by charting for 33 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing BTS’s legendary hit “Dynamite,” which stayed on the chart for 32 weeks. This achievement crowns Jimin the longest-charting K-Pop solo artist on Billboard history, also setting the record for the longest-running chart entry for both a soloist and as part of a group.
Furthermore, Jimin made history by reaching No.1 on the Billboard Artist Chart, becoming the first K-Pop solo act to do so. This also places him as the only K-Pop artist to top the chart both as a group member and as a solo artist. Additionally, he became the first and only K-Pop soloist to achieve 40 total weeks on the chart, cementing his stature as a global pop icon.
The buzz around whether Jimin will take home the AMA’s Favorite K-Pop Artist award continues to build. Fans and global media will be watching closely when the ceremony takes place on May 26 at 5 PM in Los Angeles.
