Japanese Fan Sent to Prosecutors After Unwanted Kiss on BTS Member Jin

Japanese fan who kissed BTS Jin during Seoul hug event referred to Korean prosecutors

A Japanese woman in her 50s has been handed over to the prosecution for kissing BTS (Bangtan Boys) member Jin without his consent during a fan event. The Songpa Police Station in Seoul reported on June 8 that the woman was charged under South Korea’s Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes for molestation in a public space.

According to authorities, the woman entered South Korea recently and voluntarily appeared before police for questioning. The incident took place last year on June 13 at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, during a special event where Jin hugged around 1,000 fans.

While embracing Jin, the woman suddenly kissed him on the cheek, visibly startling the artist. Footage from the event showed him pulling back in discomfort. The sudden and inappropriate act notified concerned fans, one of whom reported the incident to the police.

The police later launched an investigation, requesting the suspect’s appearance. However, due to her prolonged stay abroad, a delay occurred, and in March, investigators temporarily suspended the case in accordance with legal procedures, which allow for suspension of cases where the accused resides overseas for an extended period.

Now with the suspect’s return and voluntary submission to questioning, authorities have concluded their investigation and forwarded the case to the prosecution for further processing.

This incident has raised discussions among global fans about idol safety and the importance of respecting personal boundaries, especially in high-profile fan engagement events.
