The Return of a Classic Voice

Renowned South Korean singer-songwriter Jang Pillsoon has made a triumphant return with her new single “Love Melody” released on April 4th. Marking her first release in two and a half years since her 2022 EP “Thank You”, this classic ballad is eagerly anticipated by fans.

A Gift from a Fellow Musician

The song “Love Melody” is a heartfelt gift from her long-time music collaborator, Lee Kyuho, written for Jang and her life partner, Cho Dongik, who also arranged the track. Known for his lyrical depth, Lee drew inspiration from the enduring love shared by Jang and Cho, a sentiment beautifully captured through the song’s poignant lyrics and piano composition.

Legacy of a Musical Community

Lee Kyuho, a notable alumnus of the Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition, shares a rich history with Jang Pillsoon and Cho Dongik. They were once part of the legendary musical collective Hana Music, led by Cho’s brother, Cho Dongjin, that shaped Korean folk music during the 1990s.

Love and Music Interwoven

“Love Melody” paints a universal love story through musical language—melding terms like “melody,” “pianist,” and “treble clef” with lyrics that voice pure affection. Jang describes it as a “plain love song”, first performed at the ‘Hagjeon Again’ concert when Hagjeon Theater closed its doors in 2024.

The arrangement is minimalist, featuring a simple piano line with minimal sound effects, complementing the song’s candid lyrics. Further enriching the single is a music video that subtly captures Jang and Cho’s life in the serene nature of Jeju Island. Fans can expect its release soon.
