Former BEAST member Jang Hyun-seung has made a sensational return to the spotlight with his appearance on MBC’s singing competition series ‘King of Mask Singer’, airing on May 20. Appearing as the mysterious contestant “Pretzel,” Jang impressed both live audiences and viewers at home with his otherworldly voice and soulful performances, marking his first television appearance in nine years.

Jang’s journey on the show captivated fans from the start. During the May 13 broadcast, he performed a stunning duet of Kim Hyun-chul’s ‘Why So’ with political analyst Kim Ji-yoon, who was masked as “Tart.” Their harmonious blend charmed the judging panel and audiences alike, with Jang securing a resounding victory of 85 to 14.

Advancing to the second round, Jang faced off against “Flower Bouquet,” delivering a unique rendition of Yoo Jae-ha’s iconic ballad ‘Reflection of My Heart.’ Fusing delicate R&B with raw emotion, he elevated the original track with his signature tone and refined technique, earning high praise from the panel.

Singer Ailee remarked, “It felt like he was casting a spell, saying ‘Fall for my charm.’” Commentator Yoo Young-seok added a witty metaphor, saying, “His performance was as pure as white milk, yet infused with caffeine and carbonation—it had a special kick.”

When Jang finally removed his mask, the studio erupted in astonishment.
