J-Hope Makes History as First Korean Male Solo Artist on Billboard Cover

BTS JHope becomes the first Korean male solo artist to feature on Billboard magazine cover

J-Hope, the globally acclaimed member of BTS, continues to break new ground as a solo artist by becoming the first Korean male soloist to appear on the cover of Billboard magazine. Unveiled on May 20 (local time), the May issue features a stunning photoshoot and candid interview that highlight his influence and artistry.

In the cover shoot, J-Hope exudes a calmly confident and stylish presence, captivating fans worldwide. Appearing on the Billboard cover is widely seen as a measure of global impact and recognition—a milestone J-Hope now claims as a solo act. Previously, BTS had graced the cover in 2018 and again in August 2021.

In the feature article, Billboard praises J-Hope’s powerful stage presence and spellbinding performances, crediting him as a key contributor to BTS’s rise to international stardom.

In the accompanying interview, J-Hope shares his artistic philosophy: “Just as I was inspired by artists I loved as a child, I hope my music becomes a source of positive energy for someone else. I want to continue growing as an artist who brings light and courage, no matter where I am.”

Widely regarded as a symbol of hope by countless fans and fellow artists alike, his current world tour, Hope on the Stage, embodies this very essence. J-Hope took an active role in every component of the tour—from stage design to choreography, costumes, and props—emphasizing artistic authenticity. He stated, “I’ll continue to create performances that unite people through the power of music.”

In April, J-Hope distinguished himself once again by performing at BMO Stadium, becoming the first Korean soloist to headline the venue. Reflecting on the moment, he said, “I’ve performed in many stadiums as part of BTS, but this time I had to carry it on my own. Overcoming that intense energy and pressure will stay with me forever.”

Demonstrating his power as a solo musician, J-Hope recently charted on the Billboard Hot 100 with both “Sweet Dreams (feat. Miguel)” and “Mona Lisa.” He explained that both tracks are emblematic of his evolving musical direction—universally relatable yet distinctly personal. “This is just the beginning,” he noted. “I have more musical experimentation to share.”

J-Hope is set to continue his Hope on the Stage world tour with upcoming performances in Taipei on May 24 and 25, offering fans another chance to experience his unique artistry live.
