Immortal Songs Reveals Yoon Sang’s Fatherly Pride: Lovelyz’s K and Ryu Su-jeong Share Behind-the-Scenes Moments
On the April 19 episode of KBS 2TV’s acclaimed music competition show Immortal Songs, fans were treated to a heartfelt and humorous behind-the-scenes look at legendary producer Yoon Sang and his relationship with his idol star son, Anton, a member of the rising K-pop group RIIZE.
In this special episode titled “Artist Kim Hyun-chul X Yoon Sang X Lee Hyun-woo,” a wave of nostalgia and talent converged as veteran musicians’ most iconic songs were reimagined by a new generation of artists. One highlight? Former Lovelyz members K and Ryu Su-jeong opened up about their longtime mentor Yoon Sang and his proud dad moments off-camera.
“He used to show off his son, Anton, all the time—like, even before Anton debuted,” K said on stage with a smile. The duo, who have referred to Yoon Sang as the “father of Lovelyz’s sound,” recalled how fondly he would speak of his son. “Sometimes we’d catch him just looking at Anton’s photos during breaks,” Ryu Su-jeong added. “When we’d tease him that he looked like Anton, he’d play it cool and say, ‘I don’t really see it,’ but you could tell he was proud.”
While many expected the pair to sing a Yoon Sang hit in honor of their mentor, K and Ryu Su-jeong surprised fans by choosing Lee Hyun-woo’s emotional ballad “The Day After Breaking Up.” “It was a tough decision,” K admitted, “but we really wanted to try something fresh and emotionally powerful.”
On the other hand, singer Im Han-byul selected Yoon Sang’s classic “The Shadow of Separation,” admitting, “I chose this song because Yoon Sang is the father of a global idol. Maybe singing this could make my stage go viral too,” he said, laughing.
The two-part special will air over two consecutive Saturdays, starting April 19 and continuing on April 26. Featuring powerhouse vocals from artists like Lee Seok-hoon, Hwang Chi-yeul, SORAN, Jo Jeong-min, Yoo Hwe-seung, and others, this episode celebrates the lasting influence of Kim Hyun-chul, Yoon Sang, and Lee Hyun-woo on Korean pop music.
Immortal Songs continues to top viewership rankings every Saturday at 6:05 PM on KBS 2TV, proving its place as Korea’s premier stage for vocal excellence and musical legends.
