High School Action Revolution Continues with ‘ONE: High School Heroes’

Korean drama ONE High School Heroes brings school action battles and inner rage to life

The Korean action drama wave gets a fresh surge as ‘ONE: High School Heroes’ gears up for its debut on May 30. Based on a legendary Kakao Webtoon that garnered over 65 million views, the series continues the potent legacy of school-centered combat drama, most notably ignited by the acclaimed ‘Weak Hero’.

‘ONE: High School Heroes’ centers on the top student Euigyeom (played by Lee Jung-ha), who is constantly oppressed by his authoritarian father. When Yoon-gi (Kim Do-wan) sees the latent fighting talent in Euigyeom, he persuades him to form a covert group called ‘High School Heroes’. Together, they aim to disrupt the entrenched power structures of school violence and hierarchy through sheer determination and raw combat.

The official trailer grabs immediate attention with its adrenaline-filled action scenes and gritty, unfiltered combat storytelling. From heavy breathing to fast-paced strikes, the trailer showcases a transformation arc as Euigyeom awakens to his innate combat prowess under Yoon-gi’s manipulation. Their partnership hints at moral complexities, with Yoon-gi serving as both a mastermind and instigator.

The oppressive presence of Euigyeom’s father, who flicks his forehead in an unnerving power move, further intensifies the emotional stakes. This psychological and emotional brewing builds into Euigyeom’s volcanic anger that erupts in a cathartic showdown, adding depth to the action sequences.

Also catching fans’ eyes are the introduction of the mysterious transfer student Lee Geol-jae (Yook Jun-seo) and the indomitable fighter Choi Ki-soo (Yoo Hee-je), each bringing fiery presence and sharp charisma alongside breathtaking physicality to the cast.

With ‘Weak Hero’ setting a new benchmark for high school action dramas, the release of ‘ONE: High School Heroes’ marks a compelling continuation in the genre. It promises not only stylized, intense battles but also a reflective look at institutional power, identity, and inner transformation. Expect a gripping, emotionally-charged journey when the drama launches this May.
