Han Chae-young Returns to the Big Screen with Psychothriller ‘City of Vice’
After an eight-year hiatus from the silver screen, South Korean actress Han Chae-young is set to make a dramatic return in the 2025 psychothriller City of Vice. Directed by and starring actor Hyun Woo-sung in his bold directorial debut, the film also features rising star Jang Eui-soo. Slated for a June 2025 release, this dark psychological drama delves into themes of manipulation, trust, and social paranoia.
City of Vice follows Yoo-jung (played by Han Chae-young), a popular internet lecturer whose seemingly perfect life takes a horrifying turn after a single night with charming entrepreneur Seon-hee (Hyun Woo-sung). As his demeanor rapidly shifts from considerate to terrifying, Yoo-jung is plunged into fear. Her younger brother, Kang-soo (Jang Eui-soo), grows suspicious of Seon-hee and becomes determined to uncover the truth behind his sister’s unraveling world.
The film taps into urgent and realistic social issues—stalking, dating violence, and gaslighting—making it both a gripping thriller and a socially conscious narrative. Han Chae-young portrays the embodiment of human goodness as Yoo-jung, in what is anticipated to be a powerful and empathetic performance. Director Hyun Woo-sung surprises audiences with his transformation into a dark, villainous role, while Jang Eui-soo weaves tension as the relentless brother unraveling the secrets.
A recently released teaser poster echoes the film’s ominous tone, heightening anticipation ahead of its summer release. City of Vice is set to challenge viewers’ perceptions of morality, trust, and the dangerous thin line between sanity and madness.
