Good Boy: Olympic Champions Turned Cops Unite for Justice in Explosive K-Drama
JTBC (Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company) has officially dropped the global trailer for its anticipated new weekend drama ‘Good Boy’, directed by Shim Na-yeon and written by Lee Dae-il. Produced by SLL (Studio LuluLala), Studio&NEW, and Drama House Studio, the explosive youth action series will also stream globally via Amazon Prime Video starting May 31.
Featuring a dynamic ensemble cast including Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok, the ‘Good Vengers’ unite as former Olympic medalists who now serve as elite police officers. The trailer opens with the thunderous cheers of an international competition, where glory once defined their lives. But after being recruited into law enforcement through a special selection program, reality hits hard, challenging their pride and purpose.
As the tranquility of their post-athlete life fades, they are compelled to face Inseong City’s villainous kingpin, Min Ju-young (played by Oh Jung-se), a ‘bad boy’ who thrives on corruption and lawlessness. Shadows loom large as the antagonist’s mere presence emits spine-chilling tension.
Echoing the legendary words of Muhammad Ali, “Impossible is nothing,” Park Bo-gum’s character Yoon Dong-joo vows, “I will put you behind bars. Run if you can—I will chase you till the end.” As action sequences roar to life, viewers are promised a surge of adrenaline, drama, and compelling youth narratives.
Each character brings their own flavor of justice: Dong-joo, the righteous ex-boxer; Ji Han-na (Kim So-hyun), the sharpshooting former markswoman; Kim Jong-hyun (Lee Sang-yi), a precise ex-fencer; Go Man-sik (Heo Sung-tae), a fearless ex-wrestler; and Shin Jae-hong (Tae Won-seok), a powerhouse ex-discus thrower. Together, they fight using every bone and muscle in their bodies in exhilarating action reflective of both heart and heroism.
The show, dubbed an “action youth drama,” transcends standard cop genres by mixing pulse-pounding battle scenes with themes of integrity, passion, and camaraderie. The production team describes Good Boy as “a fiery portrayal of youth racing toward justice,” promising global audiences “a powerful story and explosive chemistry” among its leads.
Good Boy comes from acclaimed director Shim Na-yeon, known for Beyond Evil (winner of Best Drama at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards) and The Good Bad Mother. Combining her vision with writer Lee Dae-il’s expertise from Life on Mars and Chief of Staff, the drama is set to debut Saturday, May 31 at 10:40 PM KST on JTBC, signaling the launch of a new genre-blending, emotionally resonant Korean drama to binge.
