Go Youn-jung Shines as a Rookie Doctor in tvN’s New Medical Drama

Go Youn-jung, one of Korea’s rising stars, takes on the challenge of portraying a first-year OB/GYN resident in tvN’s new weekend drama ‘When I Am Alone’. Episode 3, airing tonight at 9:20 PM, showcases her character Oh Yi-young as she navigates the complex emotional world of patients and their families.

Directed by Lee Min-soo, and created by acclaimed duo Shin Won-ho and Lee Woo-jung, this heartwarming medical drama is produced by CJ ENM Studios and The Eggs Coming. Oh Yi-young enters the high-pressure environment of Yulje Hospital Jongno with one simple goal: to repay her debts. However, reality soon sets in as she must endure grueling hours, constant criticism from Professor Seo Jung-min (played by Lee Bong-ryun), and passive-aggressive comments from savvy fellow Myoung Eun-won (played by Kim Hye-in).

Despite the mental and physical toll, it’s the patients who keep Oh Yi-young going. Her dedication becomes clear when she responds to urgent calls, often putting aside her own needs. As her journey continues, she’s confronted with a new challenge: comforting the loved ones of her patients. In a touching scene, Oh Yi-young fumbles through an emotional interaction while fellow resident Koo Do-won (played by Jung Joon-won) steps in to demonstrate how to offer genuine comfort by simply holding a guardian’s hand.

Realizing her shortcomings in offering emotional support, Oh Yi-young seeks guidance from Koo Do-won, who is known within the department as an expert in patient relations. Under his mentorship, she begins to understand that being a good doctor isn’t just about clinical skills—it’s about empathy and connection.

‘When I Am Alone’ delivers a relatable portrayal of a young professional navigating the chaotic yet rewarding world of hospital life. As Oh Yi-young continues to grow, viewers are rooting for her transformation into a compassionate physician. Tune in tonight on tvN for another heartfelt episode.
